Standard & Customized Fields

Standard Fields

ShiftRole Title: 1-3 words that best describe what the worker will be doing.  Eg.  Plumber, General Labor, Flooring

Environment Expectations: (optional): Workers are more likely to do a better job if they know what to expect when they arrive.  What is the worst thing about the shift that they may encounter?

Closing duties: Anything you need the worker to do before they leave for the day.  The more specific you are here, the better. Give them a checklist they can be responsible for before they clock out.

Payday: Choose either SAME DAY, NEXT DAY, or NEXT PAYROLL. If your business has the ability to process same day or next day pay, this will attract more workers and motivate them to pick up your shifts. If you select next payroll, please specify exactly what day they will get paid for the specific shift you are posting.

Pay Rate: Details are important here. Set CLEAR expectations here.

Shift Bonus $: This field is used for last minute posts or posts that have been out there for awhile and haven’t been picked up. It’s used as a motivator, not an expectation on every shift.

Supplied by SubWorker (optional): This is used to remind or notify the subworker picking up the shift to bring certain things with them for the job. This could be safety glasses, CDL license, hand tools, etc. Most shifts will not require subworkers to bring things.

Task(s) to complete on this shift: Set CLEAR expectations here. You can reference a ShiftRole Ad OR set up a RepeatShift where the information is there and you just select the shift type from a list. If there is anything in specific above and beyond the shiftrole and/or repeat shift for this shift that is critical to a successful shift – this is where you would enter it.

What to wear: We recommend you state either “company provided uniform” or “shiftsub standard”.

Min. Age (optional): It is up to each employer to follow their local, state, and federal laws when filling in this field.  You may leave this blank.

Skill Set (optional): We offer the option to select a Skill Set/Worker Level for the OpenShift roles for consistency in communication between subworkers and employers. A subworker may be a rookie for one position within your business but an expert level for another role within your business.

  • Rookie: worker who is new to your SubTeam and will need to be supervised and/or guided throughout the shift.  They may have worked for you before, but still need to be watched over.
  • Independent:  worker who can work independently whether skilled or unskilled.  Usually someone who has picked up shifts for you in the past and no longer needs full-time supervision.
  • Expert:  These are the workers who will lead jobs or are an expert in their field. They may be trainer level but don’t actually train.
  • Trainer:  This person is working for the sole purpose of training another worker.  They are also considered an Expert in their trade.
  • Trainee:  This worker is the person being trained by the Trainer or Mentor on a shift/project.  They will be with the Trainer/Mentor the entire time.

Employer Shift Notes (private): Only seen by the employer.  This is where the Mentor can make notes about the subworker on that specific shift. This could be about the subworker’s uniform, teamwork, attitude, language, cell phone usage, etc. Great resource for HR to pull from. Anything/everything except punctuality and attendance.

Punctuality (private-employer) & Attendance (private-employer): Both of these are only seen by the employer.  Another great source of communication/documentation by the Mentor (supervisor on shift) for the purpose of HR reference.

Payroll Status (private-employer): This is only seen by the employer.  Some employers may choose to pay bonuses out at the end of the shift or pay a worker outside of their payroll system.  This section lets you choose what the pay status is of the worker for tracking purposes.  So payroll knows who has received the bonus and who hasn’t OR if they are paid same day/next day – payroll can see that they need to be entered in payroll for taxes, but not to actually issue them a check.

SubWorker notes to employer & Employer notes to SubWorker: These two fields are for any extra notes that the employer and/or subworker need to share with each other.

Customized Fields

If you would like to add a customized field for your business so it appears for your SubTeam when you post OpenShifts, please open a support ticket.

A customized field could a drop down field with a list of tools for you to select from. If you send subworkers directly to a jobsite, you may want an address field for where they report to work. If you are posting for a delivery shift, you may want pickup and dropoff fields. We realize each industry and business type may need to set different expectations. The ability to add custom fields is to help insure that subworkers are better prepared when they show up for a shift they have picked up.
