For Contractors

ShiftRole Title: 1-3 words that best describe what the worker will be doing.  Eg.  Plumber, General Labor, Flooring

Environment Expectations: Workers are more likely to do a better job if they know what to expect when they arrive.  What is the worst thing about the job?  Are they working outside in the heat or extreme cold?  Are they going to get really dirty?

Mentor Name & Phone: This is the name and phone number of the person the worker will report to when they arrive and check with before they leave.  The Mentor is who they will go to with questions and who is responsible for the worker’s success on the shift.

Closing duties: Anything you need the worker to do before they leave for the day.  This could be having a timecard signed, cleanup all materials, tools & trash from the job site, load materials in the truck, let the homeowner know you are leaving, etc.  The more specific you are here, the better.   This could also be where you ask the SubWorker to complete the field below called “SubWorker notes to employer” with the status of the job at the end of the day, any comments made by the homeowner, if anything went wrong, if they were missing materials, etc.

Payday: SubWorkers are paid as part of your normal payroll cycle.  You will want to put the pay date they will get paid for working this specific shift or project.  Or you could post something like :  Paid every Friday for the prior Monday through Sunday as a general statement on all open shifts.

Pay Rate: Be specific.  Note if they are paid hourly or by the project.

Shift Bonus $: We recommend you leave this blank unless you are posting for a last minute worker or if no one has picked up your open shift/project and it’s getting close to the time you need someone.  We feel this is best used as motivation in crunch mode.

Tools supplied by SubWorker: We recommend for experienced workers like a plumber, you use a blanket statement such as “any/all tools necessary to do the plumbing job as noted”.  If you are sending an unskilled or manual/general labor worker and want them to bring tools, we recommend you be more specific and list them.  Example: Power drill, hammer, measuring tape.

Tools & Supplies need for this job (from employer): List here any tools you will provide for the job/project.  And whether you will bring the tools to the job site or if you need the worker to come by the shop to pick them up first.

Task(s) to complete on this shift: This is the most important field in the open shift.  Be specific.  Anything they need to know to complete the project successfully would go here.  Instead of “Replace faucet” try “remove and replace bathroom faucet in master bath. The homeowner will provide a faucet.”

Safety Gear Required (by SubWorker): We recommend you use this section for any expectations that need to be set to ensure safety for the worker and homeowner as well as anything required for compliance with OSHA.

What to wear: Set expectations here as to what they should not wear.  We recommend something like “No shirts or hats with anything that may be offensive to another person.  Plain colored t-shirts are recommended.” We recommend workers wear a ShiftSub t-shirt and jeans/pants/shorts or a plain colored t-shirt if you are not providing workers with t-shirts.

Job Site Address & Homeowner’s Name: The only information that is available in Open Shifts by all workers is the city & state.  Once a worker picks up a shift, the homeowner’s name and street address will appear in their personal schedule.

* Min. Age: It is up to each employer to follow their local, state, and federal laws when filling in this field.  You may leave this blank.

Skill Set: Rookie: worker who is new to your SubTeam and will need to be supervised and/or guided throughout the shift.  They may have worked for you before, but still need to be watched over. Independent:  worker who can work independently whether skilled or unskilled.  Usually someone who has picked up shifts for you in the past and no longer needs full-time supervision. Expert:  These are the workers who will lead jobs or are an expert in their field. Trainer:  This person is working for the sole purpose of training another worker.  They are also considered an Expert in their trade.  Trainee:  This worker is the person being trained by the Trainer or Mentor on a shift/project.  They will be with the Trainer/Mentor the entire time.

Employer Shift Notes (private): Only seen by the employer.  This is where you may make notes about anything the homeowner may have said or if the worker did a really good job, or any HR concerns that need to be addressed.

Punctuality (private-employer) & Attendance (private-employer): Both of these are only seen by the employer.  They are for internal notes only.  You can note here any punctuality or attendance issues with the worker. Or even make notes if they showed up early!

Payroll Status (private-employer): This is only seen by the employer.  Some employers may choose to pay bonuses out at the end of the shift or pay a worker outside of their payroll system.  This section lets you choose what the pay status is of the worker.  You don’t have to use this section.  It is here for your convenience and reference only.

SubWorker notes to employer & Employer notes to SubWorker: These two fields are for any extra notes that the employer and/or subworker need to share with each other.

Important Notes: If there are additional fields you would like added to your Open Shifts, email us as schedules@shiftsubjobs.com.
